Full-colour flyer printing rules!
There was once a time, not too long ago, where the price of black & white and full-colour flyer printing varied so drastically that often printing in colour was only for those with budgets to handle it. This was because during the days of litho-only printing you had to have a ‘plate’ made for each colour you were going to use in your print. Black and white printing needed only one plate (black printed onto white paper) which reduced the costs.
It would make sense that people would choose black and white over full-colour printing for this reason. Imagine a situation where you wanted 100 business cards. The cost of the paper, ink and delivery would probably have been about £25, but add to that the cost of the first plate; about £25 and you have £50 worth of cards. But full colour would cost 3 plates more 3 x 25 = 75 so the cost of the full-colour cards would have been £125 and that is a little high for only 100 cards. So there were quantity limits, probably in their thousands, to make it better value for the customer and the printer.
But today we are not limited by these costs and with improved technologies in litho printing and the advent of digital printing, we can all get great quality at much lower prices than we once could. So now you have full-colour flyer printing for far less than you would have had to pay in the past. Need black and white? that’s absolutely fine too!
